What Can the Location Tell You?
The rack’s location may be one of the biggest clues.
Was it:
- Directly beside the oven?
- Under a countertop?
- Inside a cabinet?
- Attached to a wall?
- Sitting on the floor?
- Built into an opening?
- Near a pantry?
- Near a sink?
- Near an old appliance connection?
Even a few inches can make a difference when identifying an old fixture.
For example, something located beside an oven could have been related to cooking or baking, while a rack near a sink might have served a drying or storage function.
Don’t Throw It Away Just Yet!
If you find an unusual fixture in an older home, it’s tempting to remove it immediately.
But before doing that, take a few photographs.
Get pictures from:
- The front
- The side
- The back
- The mounting points
- Any brackets or
