In fact, the fungus may be helping break down organic material.
Why do they keep coming back?
Removing the visible mushroom doesn’t necessarily remove the fungus growing beneath the surface.
The underground fungal network may remain in the mulch or decaying wood. If moisture and suitable food sources remain available, new fruiting bodies may emerge later.
That doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.
It simply means the fungus has found conditions it can use.
