- Cucumber
- Pickles
- Green onion
- Red onion
- Bell pepper
- Radish
You can even combine a couple of them.
Mayonnaise Is More Than Just a Binder
Mayonnaise brings richness and moisture, but it’s easy to overdo.
Start with less than you think you need.
Mix everything together, then add more mayonnaise a tablespoon at a time until you reach the texture you like.
This gives you much more control.
And here’s a little trick I love:
Let the tuna itself remain noticeable.
If the salad looks like mayonnaise with a little tuna hiding inside it, you’ve probably gone too far.
Don’t Forget Something Tangy
This is where tuna salad can suddenly come alive.
A little acidity cuts through the richness of the mayonnaise.
Try:
- Yellow mustard
- Dijon mustard
- Pickle relish
- Chopped dill pickles
- Lemon juice
- Apple cider vinegar
You don’t need much.
