The Pickle Relish Debate
Now we’re getting into serious tuna-salad territory!
Some people wouldn’t dream of making tuna salad without pickle relish.
Others want absolutely nothing sweet anywhere near their tuna.
Both camps can make a perfectly delicious lunch.
If you like relish, start with a small amount and taste before adding more.
Dill pickle relish gives you tanginess without much sweetness, while sweet relish adds a noticeably different flavor.
A Little Onion Goes a Long Way
Raw onion can be wonderful in tuna salad.
But it can also take over.
Finely mince it rather than chopping it into large pieces.
Red onion adds color and a sharper bite.
Green onion is milder and gives the salad a fresher flavor.
For an especially mellow tuna salad, soak diced onion in cold water for a few minutes, then drain it thoroughly before adding it.
